Fire War by T.T. Michael is about Anthony Jackson, a sharpshooter and
devoted father. When he proves his loyalty to his nation and President
Meyers, he goes from military man to a position on the President’s staff.
He has a first hand view of an ever-changing world during the mid-21st
century. It isn’t until his own daughter begins questioning the loss of civil
liberties and basic rights that Jackson begins to question his loyalties to
the President, who has so skillfully manipulated the public’s fear of
terrorism for his purposes.

T.T. Michael expertly weaves a futuristic tale of a devoted soldier, loving
father and loyal American around many of the same issues that
Americans struggle with today — including the balance between protecting
civil rights with the security and prosperity of the nation. Fire War is a
thinking man’s dystopian novel written from the perspective of a strong
adult male with concerns that most people can relate to. Anthony
Jackson, for all his skill and knowledge, is portrayed as the average man
doing the best he can with the hand he was dealt.

Read Fire War with an open mind to the possibilities and be ready to take
a hard look at your present beliefs and how much you would be willing to
give up for the promise of a brighter future. This is one dystopian thriller
that you’ll want to share with family and friends, both for the
entertainment value and as a reminder of the Benjamin Franklin quote:
“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary
Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”

Fire War by T.T. Michael is my type of novel. First, it’s protagonist is a
sergeant in the United States military. Doesn’t matter to me whether5star-shiny-hr
we’re talking Marine, Army, or even Navy Seal. I like good, well told,
realistic stories about all these guys. Next, Fire War takes place in the
future. Around the year 2051 to be more precise, though the story jumps back and forth in time a little. This is the near future, a future some people reading this review will see. When done well, near future stories about the United States are much more interesting to me than tales that take place long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away, though I like those stories too. The bottom line for me is that Fire War takes place in a future very easy to imagine because elements of it are in place today and Gunnery Sergeant Anthony Jackson is someone I can totally relate to
because I have been in his boots and done his job.

In the world of Fire War, the United States and Canada have become the
North American Union. Terrorism is still a threat but wears a new name.
Al Qaeda and Isis are old news. The new threat is called Hariq Jihad, or
Fire War. Gunnery Sergeant Jackson is the best sniper in the NAU and
boy, is his story exciting! Great writing and realistic depictions of the
dilemmas many American service members have had to face made Fire
War a fast, exciting read. This future seems totally possible, even
probable. I really enjoyed this book and this probable future. I can’t wait
to read more of it.

Late in the 21st century, the United Continental States of America (UCSA), comprising the former USA, Canada and Mexico, is running smoothly, thanks to President Meyers who also keeps the country safe from the terrorist group Hariq Jihad (‘Fire War’). As President Meyers’ personal security, Gunnery Sergeant Anthony Jackson is a highly trained and skilled Marine devoted to protecting his country, especially his family – his wife Courtney and daughters Maya and MacKenzie. However, he begins to get glimpses of discontent about the current situation.

Fire War by T.T. Michael is a futuristic thriller that gives us insight into an intriguing yet terrifying future. The prose is clear cut and, with a solid premise and a tight plot, Michael delves deep into some troubling issues, the ones that we can’t ignore at all. Protagonist Jackson begins to fear for his family when his older daughter Maya begins to question the creeping erosion of personal liberties and the revoking of democratic rights. This is the highlight of the story for me. Comparing Michael’s Fire War with our world today is, to be frank, scary. This is because of the high possibilities of what could happen in the future.

As Jackson is forced to rethink his loyalty and beliefs toward the government that he protected most of his life, readers will also ponder on the world political situation today. The line between liberty and safety is indeed difficult to deal with. Overall, Fire War is a great read, safety is indeed difficult to deal with. Overall, Fire War is a great read, an unnerving examination of our world.

This intriguing, futuristic thriller conceives of a terrifying future for the United States.

In his thought-provoking book Fire War, T. T. Michael creates a country where the highest office is no longer elected by the populace and there is no longer unemployment–where the only real fear is of the terrorist group Hariq Jihad (Fire War).

Gunnery Sergeant Anthony Jackson is charged with protecting the president of the United Continental States of America (UCSA). As Jackson comes to the realization that not everyone is happy with the current situation in the country, everything he holds dear is imperiled. What will happen to the country, and Jackson, if the concepts of personal liberty and the safety of the country cannot be balanced?

Michael’s futuristic political thriller has a chilling ring of truth to it. As current events unfold, comparing Michael’s fiction with today’s reality sometimes becomes overwhelming. Michael describes a world where personal liberties and individual rights have vanished for the good of the group. No one has a say in who runs the country or what decisions are made by the president, a man that everyone trusts…but should they?

Tapping into our fears and trepidations, Michael has written a story that hits close to home for anyone who follows current events. In one instance, he writes that “immigrants had to learn that the only way into the UCSA was the legal way, and that they would risk death by trying anything else.”

Anthony Jackson is an interesting protagonist. He is a rule-following, hard-charging marine who clearly loves his family and country. He takes his position guarding the president very seriously, yet he seems to ignore some of the signs of impending trouble that one would expect a razor-sharp military man to catch. This seems to be Michael’s way of creating a Greek tragedy format: the chorus singing warnings in the background, with the fallible hero ignoring them until it is almost too late.Jackson’s struggles with his daughters, particularly Maya and her “radical” ideas of personal freedoms, feel real. Even into this future, teens are still testing limits and putting their parents in difficult situations. Jackson’s everyday family life adds significantly to the tension of the story by making us know about and care for the people he is most interested in protecting…after the president, of course.

Thriller fans will find this book intriguing and, to some extent, terrifying in its plausible predictions for our future in the United States.

Fire War by T.T. Michael | Kirkus Reviews

KIRKUS REVIEW

In Michael’s sci-fi debut, a sniper must deal with his feelings and his family as a North American superstate takes over.

In 2051, in Chicago, a father and son are taking in a ballgame when a bomb destroys the whole ballpark. Then, in 2076, in Mexico City, Gunnery Sgt. Anthony Jackson takes time off from training snipers to protect the presidents of Mexico and the North American Union. The NAU is the new country that was formed by the United States and Canada in the wake of the 2051 terrorist bombings. Michael devotes several pages to Jackson’s thinking about this history, including the revitalization of Detroit and its reduction in unemployment. Readers will notice that, although this takes place 60 years in the future, the concerns and references are contemporary, including the mid-2010s collapse of Greece’s economy, the danger of Mexican cartels, the fight against Islamist fundamentalist terrorists, and others. Jackson also comes off at first like a larger-than-life figure: one of the best snipers in the world, with “muscles rippling under every surface of skin.” However, he becomes more sympathetic as he worries over doing the right things by his men, his wife and daughters, and his country. Unfortunately for him, the NAU—and a new state formed by the inclusion of Mexico—no longer holds to the U.S. Constitution or to citizens’ rights; dissidents disappear without trial; and newspaper editorials discuss the need to appoint rather than elect a president. What’s interesting here is that Jackson isn’t conspiracy-minded or even curious, and it’s only a bit of heavy-handed eavesdropping at the end that clues him in to the government’s obvious wrongdoing. In other words, despite his sniper skills and muscles, he’s just a guy trying to do his job and take care of his family. Most of the suspense that the author generates in this book comes from Jackson’s struggles to do everyday things rather than from larger political issues.

Readers will find an engaging family drama underneath this futuristic political thriller.

5 Star Amazon Reviews for Fire War –

An absolutely enjoyable read for any lovers of dystopian!

By Mark Kasniak on January 4, 2016

Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase

“Fire War” by T.T. Michael is a must read for any lover of dystopian novels! Set in a futuristic United States, a military sergeant by the name of Jackson, whose specialty is sniper training finds himself assigned to run a program that will teach a new class his techniques and expertise in the craft. As his students progress in their skills, Jackson becomes forced to do the unthinkable and has to shoot one of his top students (Vasquez) as he tries to assassinate the president. Ultimately, though, the assassination attempt fails and Vasquez ends up killing the president of Mexico. With the death of the Mexican president a new union becomes formed combining the U.S.A, Canada, and Mexico under the rule of one government. The goal of the new government is to root out the Islamic extremist Hariq Jihad and any of its supporters. As Jackson’s life progresses, he’s torn by actions, but as a thank you for saving the president’s life, he is reassigned to become a part of President Myers personal security detail. Years pass, and Jackson finds himself struggling to get a grip on his past that haunts him while he desperately tries to patch things up with his wife and two daughters. But, as the time goes by he realizes that his once beloved country has slowly been evolving into something he no longer recognizes as freedom.

“Fire War” was an absolutely fun read for me. Michael’s writing is smooth and straightforward, the story never gets bogged down or boring. Michael’s also manages to nicely balance action with drama and deep seeded family/duty to country values. This is a story I believe will stand the test of time such as Orwell’s 1984 or Huxley’s Brave New World. Well done T. T. Michael, awesome Job!

When i love MY PERSONAL country but would be asked to leave whether your happened.

If any kind of of the particular story comes actual my spouse and i will certainly move in order to Iceland or perhaps something just like that. the thought of any U.S., Mexico, AND Canada becoming one country will be what created me want to read your book but soon after reading The idea i may in 2010 say This my partner and i don’t want This for you to happen ever.

The individual thing The item my partner and i maintained thinking was, “when will be the particular Jarhead going in order to figure the actual out.” Anthony Jackson is a wonderful character but blindly immediately after purchases managed to get him with a heap involving trouble. His family IN ADDITION TO his country relied from him AND he let them all decrease considering that the he believed on the program This seemed to possibly be working.

The lone thing This feel working will be This everyone was obtaining fat off the security of an nation That President Meyers built. Nobody cared This anyone would disappear for what seemed just like absolutely no reason, Just as prolonged In the same way they were safe within their little bubble.

Interesting and thought-provoking read

Fire War begins with a shocking terrorist attacks of July 14, 2051 which was perpetuated by a group called, Hariq Jihad (Fire War) where a little boy, Tommy, his father and a large number of people are killed at a Cubs vs Giants game at Wrigley Fields, Chicago. This attack happens to be one of 4 simultaneous and well coordinates attacks across 4 cities in the United States and Canada.

The story then continues to revolve around the life of Gunnery Sergeant Anthony Jackson who is eager to go home and begin life as a loving and caring father to his 2 daughters who he had managed to keep a distant relationship with, throughout his period of service in the military as a sniper in a post apocalyptic and futuristic nation called the United Continental States of America in which Mexico, Canada and the United States become one nation. He is then called to serve President Meyers and what follows is a thrilling and interesting tale in which Jackson discovers that things are not exactly what they seem.

I liked reading the book as it presented a worst-scenario for the United States. I also found it insightful and thought-provoking as it opens one eyes to the possibility of a very different United States in many decades to come.

This Plot Could Be in Our Future

By Betty Mermelstein on December 31, 2015

Format: Kindle Edition

Fire War is a plausible futuristic story whose progression of events could very well happen. The plot develops after a series of catastrophic attacks from jihadists, thirty-five years from now. A dive in the economy and riots cause the collaboration with Canada to form a new nation and a new constitution. This sets the stage for protestors who want the return to the original constitution and for an overzealous president who desires the addition of Mexico into the union under his ultimate power, twenty-five years later. An event takes place toward this goal, involving Sergeant Anthony Jackson, who becomes a favorite of the president, though he questions his power and the restrictive direction the new country is taking again and again. Each time he does, though, he dismisses the warnings and puts them to the back of his mind. Only the involvement of his family in a dangerous situation will cause him to keep his doubt in the foreground.

Though I was hoping for more action in certain parts of the book and for Jackson to come to terms with his misgivings sooner, I was intrigued with the story line and its believability.

Unrealistic or Not?

By Ebienic on December 28, 2015

Anthony Jackson is determined to finish up his Marine tour for the NAU and get home for good. He has a wife and daughters to reconnect with and a life to build. His last assignment is to train some new snipers, and he is good at what he does. He doesn’t realize that his assignment will lead to a new world order with Canada, Mexico and the US joining forces, and turning into a country he barely recognizes. What will happen when the nation feels more like Orwell’s 1984 than the current date of 2076?

Fire War imagines the US turning into a dictatorship, abandoning the principles of the current Constitution, due to extreme security measures adopted after major terrorist attacks. While set in the future it is not hard to imagine this outcome, particularly given current debates over similar issues. While at times it can feel a little preachy, Michael effectively outlines a scenario that is plausible, which is what makes it scary. I hope this turns into a post apocalyptic series with Jackson as the hero, I look forward to seeing him morph into a principled hero from the placated citizen he displays in this novel.

Fire War

Fire War by T.T. Michael is a gripping eye-opener that proves just how subtly our civil liberties can be stripped from us under the guise of “what is best.” Gunnery Sergeant Anthony Jackson’s last assignment to Mexico as active Marine results in a catastrophe that no one saw coming. Afraid that his wife is about to divorce him, he accepts a job as part of the protection detail for President Meyers at the invitation of the man himself. After a terrible act of terrorism, the story gives us a glimpse of the United Continental States of America (UCSA), a futuristic society made up of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. All borders to the outside world close; health care and schooling are top notch; and all citizens are safe from terrorist acts. Or are they? This euphoric democracy slowly and cunningly turns into a dictatorship right under everybody’s nose. Anthony Jackson notices some of the President’s actions that are not quite right, but he loves his country and remains loyal to its leader even though his conscience is trying to tell him something.

The government tolerates no dissention and Anthony just wants to keep his head down, go to work, and see to the safety of his family. Follow Anthony as he very slowly admits to himself that something is not right with this administration and only when the unthinkable happens to someone close to him does he realize how mistaken he has been. He vows to undo the wrong that only a few know about and bring the country back to the constitutional entity that it once was. Even though this account is fictional it made me think of what could happen with an unchecked leader and a complacent people. I could not put this book down because I kept waiting for Anthony to do something but I guess it was just not to be in this book; therefore, I think that Mr. Michael owes us a sequel. Someone has to check the power hungry monster that calls himself the President of the UCSA!

It’s a good book to read in between series like I did, especially before getting into another set of series books. Book description fits the book completely and it’s consistently suspenseful. It examines the paradoxes of power, the price of liberty, and the dictates of conscience. Although what happens in the book I really hope never really actually happens, but it could always happen depending on how the world keeps going. But defiantly a good buy, author & book!

Disasters, and the people who cause them, are etched in the very core of a nation. The horrific attacks of July 14th, 2051 by Hariq Jihad (‘Fire War’) had such an effect, and because of them the United Continental States of America was formed uniting USA, Canada and Mexico.

Years later, with no terrorism threats, and stability reigning, the people are happy with President Meyers, the man who has been the driving instrument, and has made this happen. The country is run under a tightly controlled, inflexible system, people know what to do, and where their loyalties must lie. However, there are others who do not agree…

President Meyers needs to be surrounded by loyal protection. When Gunnery Sergeant Anthony Jackson is offered the chance to become part of his security detail, it is the perfect opportunity for the Marine, coming just at the right time and providing much needed stability for him, his wife and two little girls.

However, as the years pass by and his girls grow older, Anthony discovers that they have wills of their own, and do not follow blindly like the majority. Also, he is tormented by an incident in the past which he must put to rest.

Will his loyalty to the President and all he stands for, stand strong when his family need him, and their lives may be in danger?
